Synopsis:
From the author of the highly addictive and bestselling Blue Bloods series, with almost 3 million copies sold, comes a new novel, Melissa de la Cruz's first for adults, featuring a family of formidable and beguiling witches.

The three Beauchamp women--Joanna and her daughters Freya and Ingrid--live in North Hampton, out on the tip of Long Island. Their beautiful, mist-shrouded town seems almost stuck in time, and all three women lead seemingly quiet, uneventful existences. But they are harboring a mighty secret--they are powerful witches banned from using their magic. Joanna can resurrect people from the dead and heal the most serious of injuries. Ingrid, her bookish daughter, has the ability to predict the future and weave knots that can solve anything from infertility to infidelity. And finally, there's Freya, the wild child, who has a charm or a potion that can cure most any heartache.

For centuries, all three women have been forced to suppress their abilities. But then Freya, who is about to get married to the wealthy and mysterious Bran Gardiner, finds that her increasingly complicated romantic life makes it more difficult than ever to hide her secret. Soon Ingrid and Joanna confront similar dilemmas, and the Beauchamp women realize they can no longer conceal their true selves. They unearth their wands from the attic, dust off their broomsticks, and begin casting spells on the townspeople. It all seems like a bit of good-natured, innocent magic, but then mysterious, violent attacks begin to plague the town. When a young girl disappears over the Fourth of July weekend, they realize it's time to uncover who and what dark forces are working against them.

With a brand-new cast of characters, a fascinating and fresh world to discover, and a few surprise appearances from some of the Blue Blood fan favorites, this is a page-turning, deliciously fun, magical summer read fraught with love affairs, witchcraft, and an unforgettable battle between good and evil.

My Review
Witches of East End took me on a new journey into paranormal fiction; I did not expect to fall so quickly into this story line. I have wanted to read Melissa's Blue Bloods series, but haven't had the chance to start it so this was the first book I read of hers. I truly fell in love with her story telling ways.

This new series introduced me to so many interesting and unique characters. Each one had a distinct personality with both loveable and irritating traits. It was easy to imagine them all as real people. Freya had her loving but impulsive ways. Ingrid was quiet, reserved, but also bold when it came to certain things. The mother Joanna reminded me of my own with typical mothering traits. I enjoyed reading about Joanna because it felt that she was always very honest. She realized her mistakes as a mother and even if she didn't seem perfect it was refreshing to read about.

Melissa wove an intricate world with intricate rules, yet none of it was too overwhelming. There was only one point when I felt a bit confused, that was towards the end and it dealt with a love triangle, but I won't go into details. Other than that one bit I felt like I was watching the story play out in my head. Things made sense, even when you added in mythological elements.

The setting was created very well. The seam and North Hampton in general is very imaginable. The homes and even the small library reminded me of a picture perfect small town.

I am very interested in reading a lot more from Melissa based on this book, there was also mention of "blue bloods" so now I'm even more interested in reading that series as well.

All in all, this book did not disappoint. This world was very interesting to read about and the characters felt like real people.

Overall Witches of East End earns four lanterns from Truth Be Told. I can't wait for book two, and to start diving into her other series/books.
